Sustainabilty and the Environment
Teal Timber Windows and Doors is committed to promoting sustainable development and environmentally sustainable forest practices.
Teal sources timber from a number of Australian suppliers who have FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFCTM ( Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) Certifications and have Chain of Custody Accreditation (a process for tracking certified timber from the tree in the forest, through the processing plant to the trader and then to the final customer), ensuring that forests are there for future generations. Teal’s suppliers are audited and certified by the independent SGS (Societe De Surveillance), the worlds leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company.
In addition to sourcing certified timber stock, Teal has implemented measures to reduce its carbon footprint. Teal has installed a photovoltaic or solar cell array on its Grafton factory roof. The array produces 15% more than the electricity required by the factory to produce all of Teal’s timber window and door products. The excess electricity is fed back into the grid further enhance our commitment to environmental sustainability.
Teal endeavours to adhere to waste management practices at every opportunity so as lessen our impact on the environment:-
- All cardboard packaging is recycled.
- Our timber offcuts are popularly sourced and donated to local hobbyists who make fishing lures and wooden toys.
- Our shavings are distributed to National Parks for their composting toilets and walking tracks, the local stables for horse bedding and local farmers for agriculture.
